Four champions line upThe Audi Cup 2009

The teams taking part in the Audi Cup 2009 could hardly be more prestigious. AC Milan, Boca Juniors, Manchester United and FC Bayern Munich have together collected 78 national league championship titles. They have also accumulated a large number of international trophies. Which team will add the Audi Cup 2009 to its collection of silverware?

A.C. Milan

AC Milan is one of the world’s most successful football clubs. In addition to 17 national championship titles, the Northern Italians have also collected seven wins in the European Cup and the Champions League since they were established in 1899. Numerous national football stars – including Franco Baresi and Roberto Baggio – have worn the shirt of the “Rossoneri”, as well as international stars like Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten and George Weah. There will also be two exceptional Brazilian players Ronaldinho and Pato, playing for AC Milan in the Audi Cup 2009.

Club Atlético Boca Juniors

The club from the La Boca barrio in Buenos Aires are the current Argentinean champions. Since the club was founded in 1905, Boca Juniors have won the national championship a total of 23 times. Diego Armando Maradona wore the blue and yellow Boca jersey for three years in all. Boca Juniors have won the Copa Libertadores, the South American equivalent of the Champions League, six times. When they last won it in 2007, Juan Román Riquelme was already in the team. The Argentinean national team member is a formidable free-kick specialist who used to play in Spain, for FC Barcelona and FC Villarreal.

Manchester United

Since the Premier League was established in 1992, the “Red Devils” have been the most successful British club team. Manchester United has 17 English championship titles and has won the Champions League, the most important trophy in club football, three times. Most German football fans will remember their thrilling final win in 1999. FC Bayern Munich led 1:0 until the 90th minute, when Sheringham scored the equaliser, and almost on the final whistle Solskjær secured the lucky 2:1 win for Manchester United. The English champions currently has one of the world's best strikers Wayne Rooney in their ranks.

FC Bayern Munich

FC Bayern Munich will be appearing as the host team for the first Audi Cup 2009. Germany’s most successful football club has won the national championship 21 times and the Champions League four times. Former football stars have assumed leading roles at FC Bayern: Franz Beckenbauer, erstwhile ‘libero’, or sweeper, and now club president; Uli Hoeneß, erstwhile striker and now club manager; Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, erstwhile striker and now club chairman. In French national team member Franck Ribéry, Bayern Munich currently has one of the best players in the Bundesliga in their team.
