Powder snow and challenging pistes, enthusiastic spectators and ambitious athletes – these are the ingredients for a successful Audi FIS Ski World Cup, which promises some exciting and gripping contests once again this year. The absolute highlight of the season are the Alpine World Ski Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Audi has been the title sponsor and given its name to the Audi FIS Ski World Cup since the 2002/2003 season, and has extended its involvement up to and including the 2011/2012 season. This is the ninth time that the event has been contested under the banner of the four rings. There is great similarity between the challenges in terms of precision and dynamics faced by these top sportsmen and women and the models built by Audi. Sölden forms the annual starting venue for races at locations in Germany, Switzerland and Norway, as well as in Canada and the USA.
Once again this year spectators can look forward to watching the highly competitive superstars of Alpine skiing. They will include skiers such as seven-time world champion Anja Pärson, not to mention Kalle Palander, Maria Riesch, Aksel Lund Svindal, Lara Gut, Kathrin Hölzl and Tanja Poutiainen.
However, this season not only will the winners of the highly sought-after crystal trophies be decided, but the Alpine World Champions will also be determined in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The World Championships are the highlight of the season for many athletes. For 26-year-old Felix Neureuther from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the World Championships in his home town promise to be a highpoint of his career.
In addition to the German team, Audi supports the national teams from Bulgaria, Finland, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and the USA.
