AUDI AG will be presenting sponsor of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships events in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany) in 2011 and in Schladming (Austria) in 2013. The brand with the Four Rings further expands its successful involvement in international skiing.
When the Upper Bavarian ski resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the centre of the world of winter sports for two weeks from 7 February 2011, AUDI AG will be presenting sponsor of an Alpine World Ski Championship event for the fourth time. At the German “home leg” in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is now hosting the Alpine Ski World Cup for the second time following on from 1978, the Four Rings will also be in evidence on the starting gate, on the advertising banners and in the finish area.
Audi will also be involved in close cooperation with the event organiser as the communication partner of the World Championships. The fans travelling to the event can expect a very special ski spectacular at a height of 1,700 on the world-famous Kandahar course. World Cup races in recent years have demonstrated that with its Tröglhang, Himmelreich, Eishang, Hölle and FIS-Schneise sections, the Kandahar is one of the most spectacular and technically demanding descents in the World Cup circus.
The location of the Alpine Ski World Cup in 2013 will be the Styrian ski resort of Schladming, also for the second time following on from 1982. The title competitions will thus be held on Austrian soil again for the first time after a 12-year gap. The last time an Alpine World Ski Championship event was held in Austria was in St. Anton in 2001.
Audi and the World Ski Championships – this partnership has a long history: Audi was already Presenting Sponsor of the Alpine Ski World Cup in St. Moritz (Switzerland) in 2003, in Bormio (Italy) in 2005 and in Val d’Isère (France) in 2009, delivering a wide-ranging programme. In Are (Sweden) Audi supported the 2007 Alpine World Ski Championships as a vehicle sponsor. For Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG with responsibility for Marketing and Sales, winter sports represent the ideal stage for the Audi brand to demonstrate innovation, dynamism and sportiness.
The role as Presenting Sponsor of the World Championship events also fits in exceptionally well with the company’s involvement in the Audi FIS Ski World Cup to which it gives its name. The presence of the company at World Championships is only one element in the wide-ranging involvement of AUDI AG in international winter sports
